From the north end Dardanelles Lake follow, in a westerly direction, smooth granite slabs down to the Upper Truckee River.
Cross the river.
Climb gradually up to Elbert Lake in a northerly direction. This section is about a mile long and has quite a few fallen trees.
Elbert Lake has a big granite wall on the south and western side.
