When the summer season ends the Eldorado Irrigation District drains about 15 feet of water from Echo Lake. This water flows into a pipeline high above the Tahoe Basin then along a small slough-like stream, through a tunnel under Echo Lake Camp and westward to Eldorado Hills.
Soon Echo Lake will freeze over and snow will fall.
