When you begin a picture you often make pretty things, but you must be
on guard against them.
Destroy these things . . . often several times. In each destruction the
result is a beautiful discovery.
You do not really suppress it, but rather transform it,
condense it, make it more substantial. Otherwise you become your
own connoisseur.
