The nutcracker remembers its seed cache sites and digs through snow drifts during the winter to get the precious seeds.
It continues retrieving seeds into the spring and summer.
If there is very heavy snow or poor seed production the nutcracker will come down off the mountain to eat fruits, nuts, berries, insects, birds, eggs, amphibians, reptiles, and carrion and garbage.
