Erigeron is from the Greek words eri meaning early and geron meaning old man. Erigerons have yellow disk flowers and many thin ray flowers that are white, pink, or purple. Coulteri is for John Merle Coulter (1851-1928). He was born in Ningpo, China. After graduating from Hanover College, Indiana, in 1870 he was a botanist with the United States geological survey in the Rocky mountains. Erigeron coulteri is a member of the Asteraceae or sunflower family. Click small images to enlarge.
