Yellow Monkeyflower

Mimulus is Latin for little mime and refers to the clownish face-like appearance of this flower.

In fact, monkeyflower suggests a monkey face.

Guttatus is Latin for spotted or speckled and refers to the reddish spots you see here on the flower.

Captain Merriwether Lewis found the monkeyflower in Montana on his famous exploration on July 4th in 1806.
