The multicolored Asian lady beetle is native to Asia, where it feeds on aphids and other tree-dwelling insects.
These beetles were released into California as early as 1916.
In the 1970s and 1980s, thousands of multicolored Asian lady beetles were released by the U. S. Department of Agriculture to control insect pests that injure trees.
