Jon Torsteinson-Rue arrived in the United States from Telemark, Norway when he was 10 years old.
His family lived in Illinois, Wisconsin, Iowa, and Missouri.
He came to California when he was 24. He tried gold mining for a while, then he bought a small ranch along Putah Creek.
