Echo Lake Camp lies on land that was part of the Lake Tahoe Forest Reserve, established in 1899.
In 1910, this land became part of the newly formed Eldorado National Forest.
Early tourists visiting Lake Tahoe followed a narrow dirt road over Echo Summit.
Berkeley Echo Lake Camp was created in 1922.
