Two Half Hitches

Two half hitches are commonly used to tie a line to a post or tie off the loose end of a trucker's hitch.

You can make this knot will slide and thus get a tight grip on a post.

Be warned; two half hitches can slip apart under high stress loads, so it should NOT be used for things like tying a rain fly to a hook.

Here's how to tie two half hitches to a post:

[ Complete the two half hitches ] Bring the rope around the post and make an underhand loop. This loop goes under the load bearing part or long end of the rope.

Bring the bitter end (free end) up over the loaded part and through the loop which you just created.

Now make a second underhand loop around the loaded part. Finally run the bitter end through this loop.

Tighten it up.
